The article, Print Me a Stradivarius on the Economist, is a good example of one of the emerging technologies that is rushing us towards The Economy of Meaning. It shows how 3D printers are gaining ground manufacturing products that we use, and how this all reduces the costs of manufacturing. True, this article is about manufacturing, but it illustrates how this step will remove almost any barrier to manufacturing, paving the way for innovation on a scale we have not witnessed before, which in turn will shrink both the costs and the labor needed to make “things.” Now couple this with IBM’s Watson taking on Jeopardy, a computer that can find the answers for you by itself, and we’re talking about a massive reduction in the time taken to process both information and materials.
